Bedar is situated in the Sierra de Los Filabres with a magnificent position overlooking the beaches of the Costa Almeria within the province of Almeria in the South East corner of Spain. The white village of Bedar is known for the influence of the Moors, who ruled the area for about 800 years. For century’s people lived off the crops until mining became the principle industry in the area and attracted people from all over Europe. Local ruins give evidence of that time and just recently a monument has been erected in the village centre where there is also a viewing point. Bedar, being just 15 to 20 minutes from the coast and just 35 minutes from Almeria airport, provides the discerning purchaser with an opportunity to buy in one of Andalucia’s most picturesque villages, with its stunning views to the coast and natural unspoilt charm, it is unique. Situated approximately 400m above sea level, it does offer the visitor the most beautiful views to the coast, Cabrera Mountains, Sierra de Los Filabres and local countryside. All those that take the opportunity to visit this unspoilt Spanish village are always in awe of its beauty and charm. The Town Hall has recently been told by the Junta De Andalucia that a large area of land to the South West of Bedar will be a designated National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty, thus protecting wildlife and flora by not allowing any further urban development in this area. This makes Bedar a haven for those wanting the authenticity of an Andalucian village with beautiful walks for nature lovers, easy access to the Mediterranean Coast, without the fear of large scale development.
